Optimal Pulse Technology (OPT) is an advanced and improved version of Intense Pulse Light (IPL). Each light pulse penetrates tissue and creates a controlled destruction to the pigmentation while leaving the surrounding healthy skin and vessels unaffected. The body’s natural process will then remove the charred and damaged pigmentation from the treated area. IPL/OPT Skin Rejuvenation is a non-invasive yet effective anti-aging solution that promotes younger, healthier, and glowing skin, harnessing the spectrum of light, it delivers impressive and lasting results to manage a broad range of aging signs. This light therapy aids in the reduction of a variety of benign conditions, including: age spots, sun induced freckles, symptoms of rosacea, birthmarks, unsightly veins, acne scarring, and other blemishes. It also helps minimize fine lines, mild wrinkles, and enlarged pores, thus restoring youth and vibrancy to the skin.
Pigmented spots are coloured spots or patches on the skin caused by increased production of melanin, the dark pigment in the skin (sun spots, age spots, freckles, uneven skin tone). Some lesions are present at birth whilst others develop with exposure to sun or with age, although most people want smooth, clear, youthful looking skin, sun damage is inevitable.
The OPT laser energy is directed onto the skin through optical gel which is applied before treatment. The light is drawn to the melanin (the colour) of the pigmentation patch; to break the pigmentation up.
On average we recommend between 4-6 treatments, however some people may need more than this; this can be due to the age and depth of the pigment. This will be discussed in depth with your skin clinician, thereafter occasional maintenance treatments are advised.
Treatments are spaced every 4 weeks.
After the treatment you will have generalised redness around the pigmented area, the pigment lesion will look darker. Between 3 to 10 days after the treatment the darker pigment will come to the surface and flake off with the natural skin renewal. Any flakes must not be picked as this can lead to scarring. Once the pigment has flaked off it should leave the area clear with little trace of the patch.
You must not use sunbeds or gain an active tan throughout the course of treatments if you do so you can only be treated 4 weeks before your holiday and 4 weeks after or until the tan has subsided. You should wear SPF 30+ with UVA and UVB every day during the course of treatments. Avoid using fake tan on the area 10 days prior to treatments; you can use it 24 hours after the treatment though.
Most facial veins are caused by environmental factors such as sun and wind damage. However, there may also be a genetic predisposition to the problem. Men are often concerned that facial veins give the impression they drink excessive amounts of alcohol. Whilst alcohol does not cause the veins to appear, it can contribute to a dilated appearance.
OPT LASER triggers the collapse of the veins and broken capillaries without doing any damage to the surrounding outer layers of skin. It also improves the overall appearance of the skin by evening out skin tone and encouraging the production of collagen. Multiple wavelengths of light treat the dilated blood vessels in the face, the structures and blood vessels causing the capillaries to flare up absorb the precise energy level and various wavelengths of light that are emitted from the OPT energy source. Effectively, the light waves are absorbed by haemoglobin (the substance that gives blood the reddish, purple colour) and converted into heat. This heat causes the walls of the vein to collapse which, in turn, stops the blood flow. Once this happens, the vein is slowly absorbed into the body, disappearing from sight. With the right course of treatment, the look of facial veins and capillaries become visibly reduced (or disappear) resulting in a more rejuvenated, younger look
Thread veins on all parts of your body can be treated. The most common treatments are for superficial veins in the facial, chest or leg areas. As the treatment relies on absorption of light by the haemoglobin in the blood, the most effective results are seen with light skin. The lighter the skin, the more pronounced the contrast between the vessel and the skin, making treatment easier.
The number of treatments depends on the body site and the severity of the thread veins, it can be given as often as once every three weeks in order to achieve the desired results. Depending upon the extent of the problem, several treatments may be necessary. Sometimes just one or two will suffice.
Rosacea is a common but poorly understood chronic (long-term) skin condition that mainly affects the face. Symptoms begin with episodes of flushing (when the skin turns red). People with rosacea may experience spots and persistent redness of their skin. Small blood vessels in the skin can become visible. In the most severe cases, the skin can thicken and enlarge, usually on and around the nose. There is no cure for rosacea, but treatments are available to control the symptoms.
Rosacea most commonly affects fair-skinned people from northern Europe and is estimated to affect up to 1 in 10 people. Rosacea affects twice as many women as men, although it is usually more serious in men. The symptoms usually begin between the ages of 30 and 50.
Rosacea treatment may take many forms from prevention to direct action. Sadly many people suffer unnecessarily for years. In early stages sufferers are often unaware that the problem is treatable, and may not seek help until the symptoms are pronounced and personally distressing. Fortunately modern techniques such as OPT Laser can reverse much of the damage caused by excessive blood flow, whilst knowledge of triggers can control the condition over time. Many people use both topical and oral antibiotics which may be effective in treating the mild cases of rosacea. In more severe cases anti-biotics such as Metronidazole are prescribed to help decrease spot formation. However, it is only minimally effective on facial redness and rarely affects the broken blood vessels or flushing aspects of rosacea which is the main concern of our clients with rosacea. In order to be effective, antibiotic treatment must be sustained. Whilst being treated, personal triggers must continue to be avoided.
Oral and topical antibiotic therapy with the avoidance of all triggers is not a very satisfying strategy! OPT is effective at removing the structurally damaged blood vessels and diminishes the constant facial redness. This effectively treats more extensive areas of the face with less pain and greater speed than the older laser methods.
You will be asked to keep your face as pale as possible by avoiding sun exposure before and during your course of treatment.. A course of 4-6 treatments at 4 week intervals produces the best benefit. Improvement may continue for many weeks after the course has finished. Rosacea is a relapsing condition and this treatment can drastically improve the appearance but does not cure the underlying condition of rosacea longer term, so you will need to come back occasionally for maintenance sessions.
It is believed that OPT helps in rosacea, by red thread veins absorbing the light energy, which heats them. This damage encourages the body to reabsorb them, improving appearance. This improves the support of the small blood vessels which helps to delay the development of more thread veins and unwanted redness.
The application of the concept of three-dimensional technology, energy + pulse width + pulse waveform, has ensured the steady and balanced output of the total pulse energy, which is the sixth breakthrough of photon technology. One OPT treatment effect is equivalent to five times of the traditional photon therapy.
Broad spectrum pulsed light targets sun damage, environmental damage, and aging skin by coagulating blood vessels, eliminating pigmented spots, stimulating collagen or elastin, and regenerating healthy skin cells. It also minimizes redness from broken capillaries and rosacea. You will notice a visible reduction in pore sizes, fine lines, and mild wrinkles, resulting in an overall healthier complexion. In addition to your face, it can be successfully used to rejuvenate the skin on your neck, back, décolleté, arms, and hands.
IPL is most often described as relaxing and therapeutic. You will experience a gentle warming of your skin’s surface and a brief, pinprick sensation during the procedure as the IPL handpiece is moved back and forth about an inch above your skin.
In general, a series of four to six treatments scheduled at four-week intervals is sufficient to address most skin concerns.
There is minimal downtime associated with these treatments. Slight redness and mild sensitivity are common, but usually disappear within a few hours after the treatment. You can expect to return to normal daily activities with the use of sunscreen for any outdoor activities almost immediately.
Each treatment takes only 20-30 minutes, and each treatment interval is about 3-4 weeks. When a satisfactory result is obtained, it is recommended to maintain the treatment from half a year to once in a year, or once every three months to slow down the aging and prolong the effect.
